Todorov's Theory

This diagram shows the theory of Todorov's theory of narrative in basic words and illustrations.
Tzventan Torodov was a Bulgarian structuralist who has created a theory that stories began with equilibrium or status quo where opposing faces are in balance.

The theory was invented in 1969 which can be related to any film or movie. According to him, every movie has the same structure and pattern.
The pattern was laid out as follows.
  1. Equilibrium (This is basically everything the way it should be, happy etc)
  2. Disequilibrium ( A problem is slowly being introduced and the equilibrium is slowly going)
  3. Acknowledgement (The problem as accrued and there is no equilibrium)
  4. Solving (The problem is being solved and equilibrium is slowly appearing again)
  5. Equilibrium (Something new has started)
This shows that in every film the structure starts with equilibrium and everything that starts with equilibrium, ends with equilibrium and also that every film has the same structure. This is disrupted by some event setting in a chain of events. Problems are solved to restore the order.

Risk assessment/ location
We as a group will need to carry out a risk assessment because we need to make sure that that the location we are going to use to for our 5 minute video. We need to make sure that the location we use is safe. Also we will need to look at the location that we are going to use because it could problems such  lose wires which could be dangerous because someone could trip over them and hurt themselves. In school we will need to make sure that any room we use that the wire are hidden and there are hazard which might cause an accident.

Equipment list/Budgeting:

Camera- £300
Tripod- £150
Mac Book for editing- £800
Editing software- £100
Props- £50
Lighting equipment- £20
Total budget- £1420

This is our five minute idea:

For each of the seven sins there will be a certain event occurring. For lust there will be the main actor wanting an excess of power, by using a lower classed car. The main actor will be driving the car and then he will want more power, break horse power, but his car is very slow and then breaks down.

After the car breaks down we could have someone next to him in a better car driving off. This would be a representation of (2) envy, as he will be jealous of the guy with the better car.

For the sin, wrath, we can have the main actor getting angry while arguing with someone about a certain topic in his workplace. Then we can show the main actor losing control, kicking, throwing things around an then finally leaving, slamming the door.

For the second sin, greed, the main actor will be shown in a restaurant/shop ordering too much food. This will show that he is being greedy by wanting more, but it will also show the sin

Gluttony as he wants an excess of food.

For the sin, pride, we can show the main actor playing a game and then getting an achievement. When he gets the achievement that is hard to attain he will start boasting and thinking that he is better than everyone else because he got that achievement. We could then show him walking around and telling people about his achievements.

For the sin, sloth, we could have our main actor being lazy after sin (4,5), because he has had too much to eat and then does nothing an just lies around

Introduction

Task 1

Single camera 5 Min

Single camera film productions is when a short film is created with a single camera and the whole short film is created with the same camera. there are many advantages and disadvantages of using a single camera and the advantages could be that using one camera would mean that the video would require a lot of editing.

Our Video
our 5 min video is about the 7 deadly sins and the actors for this would be myself and Kashif and we are going to show in our video the 7 deadly sins. We are going to use single camera for our video and the advantages for this would be that it would be cheaper for us to use this and this would also mean that it would be easier for us to use this because this would then mean that we would only need 1 camera man in our group and the advantages of this would be that more of our group can help with the acting and directing.

Today's Lesson Thursday 2nd May 2013

Today's lesson we are going to be editing our 5 min film and we are going to make sure that all of the scenes make sense and go in order perfectly.

Portal: No Escape

The short film is about a lady prisoner who is trapped in a jail like box and she finds a portal gun and tries to escape but ends up in the same place again.

Evaluation

Our 1 min film was about a person who gets an unexpected phone call and his friend is playing a joke on him. our video turns from kind of a horror to comedy as its based on a prank.

The target audience for our 1 min were 16-23 year olds and we met this target audience by making the film both of their favourite ganres horror and comedy. this was sucessful because we met this target audience perfectly.

Nearly everyone person did their role proper. I was the actor and saiful and zuned were the cameramen and editors. Kashif did not do much throughout the 1 min film.

One of our problems were that our video was kind of rushed insted of done properly. this meant that the ganres which we were trying to meet were not properly met the best they could have been done.

The improvements which could have been made are that the video could have been changed and the ganres which have have chosen could have been changed so that they fit their target audience perfectly.

Next time we will change the ganres of our 5 min film and as we will have more camera time then this would mean that we would be able to finish off the 5 min properly and it wouldnt be rushed at all and this would also mean that that the film would meet its target audience perfectly and there wouldnt be minor or major problems.
