Todorov's Theory
This diagram shows the theory of Todorov's theory of narrative in basic words and illustrations.
Tzventan Torodov was a Bulgarian structuralist who has created a theory that stories began with equilibrium or status quo where opposing faces are in balance.
Tzventan Torodov was a Bulgarian structuralist who has created a theory that stories began with equilibrium or status quo where opposing faces are in balance.
The theory was invented in 1969 which can be related to any film or movie. According to him, every movie has the same structure and pattern.
The pattern was laid out as follows.
- Equilibrium (This is basically everything the way it should be, happy etc)
- Disequilibrium ( A problem is slowly being introduced and the equilibrium is slowly going)
- Acknowledgement (The problem as accrued and there is no equilibrium)
- Solving (The problem is being solved and equilibrium is slowly appearing again)
- Equilibrium (Something new has started)
This shows that in every film the structure starts with equilibrium and everything that starts with equilibrium, ends with equilibrium and also that every film has the same structure. This is disrupted by some event setting in a chain of events. Problems are solved to restore the order.
